Bulgaria Returns as Guest of Honour at Thessaloniki Book Fair After 25 Years

Bulgaria is going to be the Guest of Honour at the Thessaloniki International Book Fair for the time in over 25 years. This is a deal for Bulgaria and Greece because it is a chance for them to share their cultures with each other.

The Thessaloniki International Book Fair is going to happen from May 7 to 10 2026 in Thessaloniki. Bulgaria has not been to the fair in a time so this is a big moment for them. The last time Bulgaria was at the fair was twenty years ago and they only made a quick visit in 2023.

Bulgaria is taking part in the fair with a theme called "Literature Beyond Borders." They want to show how stories can bring people together even if they are from countries. This idea comes from the work of author Kapka Kassabova, who thinks that literature can connect people around the world.

The Culture Minister of Bulgaria Nayden Todorov talked about the fair before it happens. He said that Bulgaria is going to the fair because they believe that literature can bring people together no matter where they are from. He also said that Bulgarian literature is becoming more popular around the world thanks to the work of writers, translators and publishers. Bulgaria is excited to be at the Thessaloniki International Book Fair and to share their literature, with Greece and other countries.

Bulgaria is getting known over the world and this is happening because of some big achievements in literature. In 2023 the author Georgi Gospodinov won the International Booker Prize, which's a really big deal. At the time people like Rene Karabash are getting more and more attention from people all around the world.

The fair is going to have a lot of things to do like meeting authors talking about books, workshops for kids and showing movies. The Bulgarian pavilion is going to open on May 7. The whole thing will end on May 10 with some music from Bulgarian and Greek artists.

At the time as the fair some Bulgarian books are being translated into Greek and people will get to see them for the first time. This is going to help Bulgaria and Greece get closer when it comes to literature.

Bulgaria is taking part in this event because it has a lot of publishers at home with over 200 publishing houses and than 600 people working in the industry, which is really something. Bulgaria has a publishing system and this is one reason why Bulgaria is going to be, at the fair. Bulgaria and Bulgarian books are going to be a part of the event.
